-
Emotion
Communicating how the character feels through imagery is an important skill I utilize when illustrating.
-
Personality
Turning real life people into cartoons is a challenge I enjoy. I like finding a visual way to express their personality.
-
Playing Around
A key part of art is not taking things too seriously. Oftentimes when I let myself play around in the space I end up with something fun, like this little guy.
-
Shapifying Things
As I continue to grow as an artist, I have found that exaggerating the basic shapes within a character makes them more dynamic.
-
Style Variety
I am skilled in a variety of styles. As you can see, these are the same two cats as the previous image but rendered in a different style.
-
Character Design
You may recognize this character, Katniss Everdeen from the Hunger Games series. I focused on her physical descriptions from the book and designed a 2D version of Katniss.
-
Comfort
Drawing people and animals is my strong suit. However, I am always looking for opportunities to push myself out of my comfort zone.
-
Photo Realism
Photo realism is where I first flourished as an artist. I am very detail oriented and this is where that skill really developed.
-
Color Design
Color is an essential part of an illustration. I enjoy using color to grab the viewer’s attention.
-
Theme
I made this “citrus loving witch” by incorporating elements of an orange throughout her outfit. I made sure every detail contributed to the overall theme.
-
Storytelling
Studying animation has taught me the importance of storytelling. Drawing characters mid-action makes an engaging illustration that helps to tell the story.
-
Pose
How a character poses can tell a lot about them. I always try to exaggerate the pose as much as I can to let their personality shine.
